OSI is one of the few places in the entire world where you can hear natural silence for even a few minutes. This experience changed me. While I stood silently in the Hoh rain forest, I realized that I had never truly listened to the world I lived in, and never fully appreciated all the beautiful music that nature makes.
The Winter Solstice – a time for quiet and centering. Perhaps difficult to appreciate, however, with the pressure and challenges of the holidays. The irony of this time of year is probably not lost on many of us.
Long after the attention is gone, those who seek to preserve our Earth will continue their efforts, perhaps unnoticed and unlauded. We at One Square Inch of Silence will continue our efforts to keep one place, one quiet place, where the earth sounds as it always has; without intrusion of the noises of machinery, technology, industry.
